Briar Cottages - in Central Scotland with highland surroundings

Activities in the Area

Hillwalking

Just over the loch are Ben Vorlich & Stuc a Chroin. Ben More & Stobinian are about 11 miles by road and the Lawers range just beyond Killin about 12 miles. There are many more munros and lesser hills within half an hours drive

Cycling

The Callander to Killin cycleway passes through Lochearnhead just half a mile from Briar Cottage.

The cycleway follows the route of the railway line which at one time ran from Callander to Killin and beyond.

This means that the route is almost level or with very gentle inclines for most of its length.

The map on the right shows some of the many attractive routes which are easily accessed from Lochearnhead

Wildlife

There are many opportunities to study or watch local (and other) wildlife:
  • Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park is 8 miles south of Callander.
  • Ospreys are frequently spotted fishing in Loch Earn and may also be observed at the David Marshall Lodge centre in Aberfoyle.
  • Red deer and roe deer may be seen all over the local area but you have to keep your eyes open.
  • The Red Kite feeding station may be visited at Argaty near Doune.
  • The 'Trossachs Bird of Prey Trail' may be followed by car, bike or on foot.
  • The Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre at Comrie provides the opportunity to observe a range of native and non-native animals  both wild and domestic.

Golf

There are 8 excellent golf courses all within half an hours drive,  the nearest being just 6 miles away.

Water Sports

The waters of Loch Earn have long been famous for  water sport activities. The local water sports centre and cafe is less than a quarter of a mile from the cottage.

Horse-Riding

Horse-riding/Pony Trekking is available at Rednock Farm near Callander and at The Equestrian Centre, Milton Morenish, on the north shore of Loch Tay near Killin.
